DR Who star of DLA Piper Monopoly Auction

2nd July 2008

David Tenant’s original script from the Dr Who Christmas special will be sold to the highest bidder to raise thousands of pounds for two local children’s hospices.

The script, signed by stars of the hit show Kylie Minogue and David Tennant, will join a break to London including chauffeur, trip to Brussels and mini break to Carden Park as some of the top items to go under the hammer at a top charity auction in Sheffield.

The auction, organised by the Sheffield office of DLA Piper, will take place after the legal expert’s life size monopoly event, being held to raise cash for the Master Cutler challenge.

It’s the last chance for companies in the region to sign up for the event which has already attracted entries from several top Sheffield businesses including Westfield Health, Sheffield International Venues, RBS, Meadowhall and Pinders. South Yorkshire Police are assisting with the ‘go to jail’ penalty and will also enter a team.

Competitors will have a two hour time limit to visit as many places and collect as much Monopoly money as possible using only public transport and people power, whilst avoiding fines, taxes and jail along the way.

Overall around 100 companies have signed up for the Master Cutler challenge and pledged to use their entrepreneurial skills to raise money for St Luke's Hospice in Sheffield and Rotherham Hospice as part of the challenge. Fundraising teams from each company received £50 to take up the gauntlet to use their ingenuity to turn it into as much money as possible.

Organiser Richard Norman, partner in DLA Piper’s litigation and regulatory group, said: “The signed Dr Who script is truly priceless and a fantastic item for any collector or fan of the show. I hope it gets the price it deserves on the night, which will be the first time anyone has attempted to stage a full size version of Monopoly in the city.

“The DLA Piper challenge will really test teams’ ingenuity and logistical expertise whilst raising cash for two great local causes at the same time. Some top local companies have signed up already and there’s not long for any remaining businesses to dust off their top hat ahead of the big day!”

The DLA Piper Monopoly Challenge will take place on Thursday July 10 from 6-8pm. Entry costs £500 per team of six, including a drinks reception and buffet, prize ceremony and auction.

If you cannot enter the event, bids for the full list of auction prizes can be made by emailing auction@dlapiper.com by 12pm on July 10.
