Hammonds is a leading commercial law firm with offices throughout the UK in Leeds, London, Manchester and Birmingham as well as in Europe and in Asia. The firm employs over 1300 people, including 190 partners, working out of 17 offices in eight countries.

Hammonds advises over 30 FTSE 100 companies, and their subsidiaries, and over 90 FTSE All Share companies, together with governments and financiers on all aspects of local and international law.

Hammonds Leeds office attracts work from the local market, the rest of the UK, Europe (via its network of European Offices) and from the United States and the Far East. Whilst the firm's lawyers are engaged in legal work in many parts of the world they have retained very strong links to the local and national legal market.

Under the leadership of Steven Glover the corporate finance team has seen significant growth over the last two years having acted on some of Yorkshire's largest deals, whilst at the same time expanding its international practice substantially. The corporate team is supported by outstanding tax, banking and corporate recovery teams led by Simon Owen, Mark Simpson and John Alderton and by an EU and competition team under the leadership of Diarmuid Ryan, which we believe is unrivalled outside of London.

The firm has always had exceptional litigation expertise in its Leeds office. Under Simon Miller, the firm's Leeds office head, and Patrick Walker, the firm's director for advocacy, the firm has continued to innovate and grow its national and international practice. The firm's Leeds office is home to Hammonds @dvocacy; property @ction and Hammonds @dvantage - all of which are regarded as ground breaking in the legal market outside of London. The firm remains committed to its well-known mediation expertise.

The Leeds employment unit, led by Mark Shrives, also has a market-leading reputation and attracts work from some of the UK's best known corporates including: Tesco; Honda; Amec and Johnson & Johnson. Again, the practice is highly innovative with its own extranet and its own case management software. The pensions team in Leeds, led by Terry Saeedi, acts for Northern Electric Group and the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

The Leeds Office Built Environment Group - which comprises its construction, property and planning practices - has also made very substantial progress in 2007. In particular, the Leeds construction team led by Zak Mulla and Richard Anderson has seen substantial growth and continues to work on high profile projects including the 2012 Olympics and the House of Lords appeal acting for L Brown & Sons. It acts for English Partnerships and six of the regional development agencies as well as a number of contractors, developers and funders. The property team has promoted four partners and has significantly strengthened its regeneration; development; investment and corporate real estate practices. The firm's planners have also had a busy year under David Goodman, one of the country's leading planners in the energy and utilities sector.
