Dry January is not an easy task to take part in, especially during the doom and gloom stage post festive celebrations., says Bethan Tolley. However, just because you’re taking the month off, it doesn’t mean you should stay at home and not join in social occasions. Many bars offer a range of Mocktails and they often look just like the cocktails you usually enjoy. Here are just a few from bars in Leicester you need to try this month.

33 Cank Street – St.Martins Square, Leicester

The Big V
This cocktail is a Big T without the hooch. Made up of lemon curd, fresh citrus, cankster juice, the mocktail is balanced with a splash of pineapple juice, making it simply delicious.

Little Bo Peep

For those who need to shepherd the flock home, this sweet mocktail consists of lemon curd, vanilla ice cream and chocolate buttons, making it the perfect alternative to a pudding.

Mai Tai Kwondo
Lashings of fresh house blend juices, orgeat (almond syrup), citrus, elderflower, roasted pineapple and black pepper make up this vegan friendly mocktail.

Revolution – 6b New Walk, Leicester

Strawberry and Coconut Daiquiri

This sweet yet refreshing cocktail has lime shaken with sugar, strawberry purée and cranberry juice, finished with coconut water. The venue also promises that it comes with a ‘side of smugness.’

Cucumber and Apple Cooler

Virgin Mojito
The classic cocktail, just without the alcohol. Choose from ginger, raspberry, passion fruit or strawberry.

Pink Grapefruit Cooler
This super refreshing mocktail is packed full of delicious pink grapefruit juice, mint, lemon and soda.

St Kitts
One that is definitely worth a taste test at The Orange Tree is a St Kitts. It may be a mocktail, but it has a fun punch to it thanks to the pineapple juice, ginger ale, grenadine and lime juice.

Painter’s Punch
The venue promises that this mocktail is everything a punch should be, just without the alcohol. The drink is a delicious mixture of exotic fruit flavours, making it a tantalising tropical taste.

Manhattan 34 – 34-38 Rutland Street, The Cultural Quarter, Leicester

Peanut Buddha
For something super sweet, try the Peanut Buddha mocktail. The drink is packed full of smooth peanut butter, double cream, milk, a drizzle of sesame oil, garnished with safflower and flaked almonds.

Sumatra
If you want to try something super imaginative, try the Sumatra. The mocktail consists of Homemade Basil Syrup, Fresh Lime Juice, Coconut Milk, garnished with a Basil Leaf, Red Chilli’s and Lemongrass.
