5 things to do in the East Midlands this weekend

Stuck for something to do this weekend? We’ve put together a list of interesting and occasionally unusual things to try out this weekend as autumn kicks in.

World Space Day
Date: Saturday 1st October
Location: National Space Centre, Leicester

To kick off World Space Week, the NSC will be hosting a fun yet educational day of workshops, craft sessions and sun gazing for all the family to enjoy.
The activities are suitable for all ages, especially younger visitors, including spotting our nearest star and learning all about the Meteosat satellite. A special screening will be playing a planetarium show called We are astronomers and the option to build your own satellite will be on offer!

 

Independents Festival
Date: Saturday 1st October
Location: Various locations, Nottingham
Support local talent this weekend at this all day festival celebrating the city’s finest independent businesses. With five stages set up around the city, a chilli dog & pizza eating competitions, free cocktails, an outdoor golf course, a pancake party, a free fudge tasting session, several demonstrations, a treasure hunt, musicals, cake tasting, workshops, free cookies and much more, there really is something for everyone!

Lincolnshire Day

Date: Saturday 1st – Sunday 2nd October
Location: Various locations, Lincolnshire

It’s a great weekend to visit the city of Lincoln this weekend as the county celebrates its official day with free activities, entry to attractions and special offers. Activities include the Lincoln artists’ market, which offers unique works from local artists and crafters, as well as the Lincoln book festival, Lincolnshire food festival and the Wolds Art Festival. There will also be free entry to Lincoln castle and Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln’s half marathon will be taking place as well as ghost tours around the city.

Derby Folk Festival
Date: Friday 30th September – Sunday 2nd October
Location: Derby city centre

This year, the tenth Folk Festival will return to Derby with great acts and an inviting community atmosphere. The Fairport Convention will be joining the Derby Folk Festival as headline act for Friday night. On Saturday, folk duo Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker performing a memorable concert at the Derby Cathedral.

Fun Palaces
Date: Saturday 1st – Sunday 2nd October
Location: Royal and Derngate, Northampton

On a budget this weekend but still want to get out and about? Take a trip down to the Royal and Derngate for a day of free, family activities including arts and crafts, storytelling activities, performances from local theatre company Querencia Theatre and a range of exciting workshops from singing to puppetry.
