Lincolnshire “crêpe innovators” bring taste of Brittany to Yorkshire

“It’s all about passion and having a strong brand presence – I literally kill myself to make it work and I think people can see that,” said Lucie Mountain about the growing success of her vintage style crêpe brand, Crêpe Lucette.

The Lincolnshire-based company – which initially started trading at farmer’s markets in 2011 – is embracing and expanding the events side of the business, having traded at some of the UK’s largest festivals including Glastonbury and CarFest.

With her vintage style trailers and traditional French crêpes receiving national recognition, Lucie hopes to expand Crêpe Lucette’s Yorkshire offering, with plans to open a permanent food and drink concept in the region.

“I’m a Yorkshire lass, that’s where I was born and where my heart is. Now I’m trying to get back to my Yorkshire roots,” she added.

“It’s not just about the crêpes, it’s the whole vintage look and feel. When I created it I thought, I can actually create some sort of feel-good destination and experience for people even if it is in a food trailer!”

The idea for Crêpe Lucette originally came from Lucie’s disgust towards “cheap and nasty” festival food and from there, she used her marketing background to create the vintage destination and took a trip to Brittany to master the art of producing authentic French crêpes.

“I thought if I’m going to learn how to do it I want to do it properly rather than learning through a YouTube video. I went over for a week and learned how to make authentic crêpes taking care to choose the right products and ingredients and that’s the recipe I always stick to.”

The recipe is paired with unusual savoury and sweet fillings to create the brand’s quirky menu and isn’t just available seasonally at festivals. People can also hire the vintage trailers for promotional events and weddings.

“Everybody loves the sugar and lemon and your basics, but by using quality ingredients and creating fresh, innovative recipes, we’ve become the crêpe innovators and the crêpe leaders within our field,” Lucie added.
