Historic Nottingham building to be transformed into student flats

An historic Nottingham city centre building is set to be turned into flats after a residential scheme was granted planning permission.

Nottingham City Council has given the green light to George Capital (Nottingham) to turn the first and second floors of 6 Victoria Street into 13 one-bedroom and one two-bedroom apartments.

The new flats will be developed above Nottingham’s French Connection store.

The building was built by Robert Evans and Sons of Nottingham in 1896, altered in 1906,
and extended in 1920. It is a Grade II Listed Building and lies within the Lace Market
Conservation Area.

A planning statement by Zenith Planning and Design Consultants says: “The upper floors are currently vacant and the proposed use will safeguard the future of the listed building.

“The City Council has a policy of encouraging student accommodation within the City Centre and there are many examples of similar buildings within the centre where planning permission has been granted for student flats in recent years. The proposed change of use will not affect the character or appearance of the Conservation Areas.
