Dentist takes a bite out of Notts practice with RBS deal

Dr Thomas Carr (partner at Minster Dental Centre) and Dr John Peterson (retiring partner at Minster Dental Centre)

Dr Thomas Carr has acquired 50% of The Minster Dental Centre in the market town of Southwell, near Nottingham, after landing a six-figure loan from the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Dr John Peterson is exiting the business after 30 years’ service as he retires from the practice and relocates to the west coast of Scotland.

Dr Carr has been practising as an associate dentist for the last 14 years and takes on 50% ownership alongside existing partner Dr Andrew Towlerton. They are supported by associates Alistair Dobb, Catherine Dewsnap, and Helen Reddington, as well as hygienists Vicki, Julie and Jodi, a practice manager and 12 nursing assistants.

Carr said: “I enjoy providing general dentistry to families and individuals alike and prefer to see my patients as friends rather than customers. I feel the dentist-patient relationship is one of the most important aspects of my work. My aim is to provide care to a high standard, in a relaxed, trusting environment with my patients at ease, fully informed about treatment options and cost.

“This newly formed partnership provides me with the security and control I was ready to take on, in a community I have become so fond of over the years. I am looking forward to working alongside Dr Towlerton to continue pushing the boundaries of traditional dentistry for the benefit of our patients’ oral health.”

Kevin Stewart, senior healthcare manager at Royal Bank of Scotland, said: “Being part of a partnership and having control over the destiny of your future is really rewarding. We are delighted we have allowed Dr Carr to secure his future at The Minster Dental Centre and we wish him all the very best of luck as he enjoys the benefits this new ownership will bring.”
