Heavyweight Champion to come to Leicester

Current IBF World Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua is set to head to Leicester, just three weeks after his sold-out fight at Wembley with Wladimir Klitschko.

The 27-year-old, who has held the IBF heavyweight title since 2016 as well as previous British and Commonwealth titles.

As an amateur he represented Britain at the 2012 Olympics, winning a gold medal in the super-heavyweight division. He also represented England at the 2011 World Championships, winning silver. He also boasts a 100% knockout-to-win ratio.

Anthony, who is from Watford in Hertfordshire, is the second British boxer after James DeGale to win both a gold medal at the Olympics as well as a major world title.

The evening, which has been arranged by Kong Events, will take place at Leicester Athena on Thursday May 18. The event will see the boxer defend his title, whilst attempting to gain the Super WBA and IBO titles.

Shane Whitfield, owner and founder of Kong Events, is also preparing for a sell-out evening in Leicester. He said: “We have worked with Anthony Joshua before, and he is a real down to earth guy. The only difference this time is that we will hopefully be working with the unified champion of the world.”

The evening will include a 45-minute question and answer session with the boxing legend himself, which will be hosted by Sky Sports’ Johnny Nelson.

There will also be the chance of a VIP experience, to get up close and personal with a meet and greet opportunity. Tickets also include a 2-course meal and entertainment.
