5 things to do in the East Midlands this weekend

Record Store Day 2017
Record Store Day is being held across the UK this weekend. The event, which is taking place on Saturday, encourages people to support their local record store by making a purchase or two. Hundreds of acts have also released their very own Record Store Day releases, with everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Elton John taking part. Local stores taking part include Forever Records and Rough Trade in Nottingham and The Attic in Ashby de la Zouch. Top tip: look out for Aqua’s ‘Barbie Girl’ or Blackstreet’s ‘No Diggity’ to be the new favourite in your group of mates. Find out more here.

St George’s Day Celebrations
Head along to Nottingham on Sunday to take part in the St. George’s Day parade. The parade will begin at the Forest Recreation Ground from 12pm and will head to Old Market Square in the city centre. Leading the parade will be knights on horseback and once in the city centre, there will be live performances, morris dancing, face-painting and other activities to get involved with. Tipping Point
Ockham’s Razor are taking to the stage at Leicester’s Curve Theatre this weekend with their new show Tipping Point. Five performers are set to transform metal poles whilst facing a series of challenges, including poles balanced on fingertips, hanging from the roof and many other exciting tricks. The group will have to decide whether to take on the chaos. Find out more here.

Roman Museum and Family Day
Head along to West Bridgford Library on Saturday to join The University of Nottingham Museum display their pop-up exhibition all about Romans. Taking place from 10am until 3.30pm, the event will see Archaeologist Peter Hammond leads a hands-on session, as well as a whole range of Roman themed activities for the whole family to get involved with. A Night On Broadway
The Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra are joining with Nottingham Trent University Choir and West End Star Kerry Ellis this weekend to perform some of the most popular Broadway hits. Taking place at the Royal Concert Hall in Theatre Square, the evening with by conducted by Matthew Hopkins and will include performances from the NTU Dance Troupe. Find out more here.
