5 things to do in the East Midlands this weekend

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
Starring X-Factor winner takes to the stage this weekend at Nottingham Theatre Royal in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s colourful musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The story follows the Biblical retelling of the story of Joseph, his eleven brothers and his coat of many colours. Find out more here.

Family Fun Day
Head along to the University of Derby on Sunday to get involved with a pirate themed family fun day. Taking place from 12pm-4pm, the event will include sports and activities for everyone to get involved with as well as trampolines, an inflatable obstacle courses, face painting and craft activities. Em-Con
The biggest film and television convention in the East Midlands is coming back to the area this weekend. Taking place at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham on Saturday and Sunday, the event will include a line-up of two of the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, actors Walter Jones and David Yost and Han Solo’s nemesis Jeremy Bulloch, better known as Boba Fett. There will also be collectables stalls, comic book artists and props and cars from both film and TV. Find out more here.

Hand Made 2017
Leicester’s independent music and arts festival returns to the city this weekend. Taking place at various venues across the city, the festival will see popular acts Cabbage, Honeyblood, Jaws and Twin Atlantic take to the stage. There will also be comedy acts to laugh along with, art to admire and film and photography to take a look at too. Find out more here.

Pikes and Plunder: Civil War Festival
Head along to the National Civil War Centre in Newark on Sunday and Monday to be transformed back to the mid-17th century. There will be live demonstrations bringing the period back to life alongside musketeers, pikemen and cannons across the historic Queen’s Sconce fort. The event takes place from 10am-5pm on both days.
