Developer plans 4-star hotels for Leicester

More details have been revealed on the huge mixed-use development on Vaughan Way in Leicester.

Charles Street Buildings Group is working up plans for the major 650,000 sq ft mixed-use development in Leicester’s Waterside area, and has now revealed that it will include two four-star hotels.

The site has recently been the subject of an archaeological excavation University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS), which has thrown up two Roman streets and the largest mosaic ever found in the city.

Joseph Murphy, Charles Street Buildings director, said: “ULAS has made some very exciting discoveries during this excavation, and we are delighted to be able to open up our site for people to come along and view these finds for themselves.

“We are now looking forward to progressing our ambitious development plans for this important site. This includes the creation of two new 4-star hotels and one of the largest local office developments in the last 20 years, along with a major refurbishment to bring new life to the historic former Great Central Station building.”

The development will include:
– Turning the former Great Central Railway station building into 100 bed boutique hotel
– Independent shops, cafes, public open spaces
– 90,000 sq ft of office space
– 20,000 sq ft of A3 space (restaurants & cafes) in two new buildings
– A later phase of 450,000-500,000 sq ft mixed use development

The site is situated in the historic heart of Leicester and is directly opposite the Highcross Shopping Centre. All amenities available in Leicester city centre are a short walk away, including the King Richard III Visitor Centre, Jewry Wall Museum as well as Leicester City’s Kingpower Stadium and Welford Road, home of the Leicester Tigers.
