Tour of Britain will bring £500,000 boost to Notts, says Moffett

The Tour will return for the first time in four years

Visit Nottinghamshire, part of Marketing NG, says hosting a stage of the Tour of Britian in September could boost the local economy by half a million pounds.

Experts are predicting an economic upswing of around £500,000 for Nottinghamshire, based on the impact seen in other locations when hosting the start or finish elements of the race in previous years.

Nottinghamshire will host stage four of the race, starting in Mansfield and finishing in Newark, and taking in 175km of the county’s roads. The race has a worldwide TV audience of millions, and is expected to attract 1.6 million spectators over the eight-days it takes place across the country.

This is the first time Nottinghamshire has hosted an entire stage of the race.

“The Tour of Britain presents a great opportunity for local businesses, and we’re keen to work with businesses to help them maximise the impact it has. There are a range of opportunities to get involved, from window dressing in shops, to special offers for visitors, to race sponsorship packages, meaning everyone has the chance to benefit from this exciting event,” said Brendan Moffett, chief executive of Visit Nottinghamshire.

“There is still an opportunity for a local business to be a headline sponsor for stage four of the race, giving unprecedented exposure via the one million people expected to watch stage four race coverage in the UK, and the 200,000 spectators we’re expecting to line the route in Nottinghamshire.”

Not only will the race provide immediate benefits for business, says Moffett, it will also help raise the profile of Nottinghamshire and its attractions, putting the county in the spotlight to a global audience.

“It’s a real coup for Nottinghamshire to have a start and finish, and the route is set to showcase some of the most iconic scenery in the county, passing by major attractions such as Sherwood Forest, Clumber Park, Newstead Abbey, Rufford Abbey and Southwell Minster,” added Moffett.

Moffett says he is now looking for businesses to partner with the Tour of Britain stage.

“We look forward to working with businesses and stakeholders to make the most of this, the biggest free-to-attend sporting event ever to come to Nottinghamshire,” said Moffett.
