Chek Whyte plans Nottingham city centre offices

The former Queen’s Hotel building, near Nottingham’s railway station, could be turned into offices.

Plans have been submitted to Nottingham City Council by CHI Investments, a company owned by Chek Whyte and his son Charles, to turn the building into some 8,266 sq ft of office space.

The former pub has latterly been used as a fireplace showroom, but has been empty for around three years. CHI Investments has recently bought the building, and wants to change it into offices.

The building would retain its 21 car parking spaces.

A design and access statement for the proposed development reads: “This document hopefully demonstrates, in conjunction with the accompanying scheme drawings, that the proposed change of use is appropriate in the context of maintaining the existing building within its local setting and in doing so will help to ensure its overall viability and long term sustainability through an alternative classification.”

Whyte lives in Bunny Hall, near Nottingham. In 2008, he bought Ilketon Town for 1p. After running into financial difficulties and owing more than £30m, he handed the club over to his son, Charles, only for it to go out of business.
