Cathedral Quarter micropub gets green light

A new Jacobean-themed micropub in Derby’s Cathedral Quarter has been given the green light by city planners.

Robert Sherwood has been given the go-ahead to turn an office at 3a College Place into a pub that will showcase real ales, craft beers and ciders.

Sherwood says the new pub will be called The Rebellion Ale House and will have a Bonnie Prince Charlie theme. It will be an homage to the 16th Century Jacobite, known as The Young Pretender [to the English throne].

In his planning application, Sherwood said: “I believe this would be a valuable addition to the Cathedral Quarter and would bring welcome additional footfall to the City ‘Real Ale Scene’.

“The proposal would create employment opportunities and stimulate economic growth in the area. Derbyshire suppliers of alcohol will also be very much at the forefront of the business model.

The property would be a welcome addition to the Derwent Valley World Heritage Site and proposed Silk Mill redevelopment works as we will provide soft drinks and allow children access during the daytime.”
