Expert Dino talks to take place this summer

Renowned authors, TV stars and expert palaeontologists will be dropping into the city this summer to speak at a series of free Palaeo Talks at Nottingham Lakeside Arts.

The hour-long talks have been inspired by the world-exclusive Dinosaur of China exhibition currently taking place in the city and will see a host of speakers from the UK and overseas take to the stage to educate dinosaur enthusiasts about everything from where dinosaurs lived to how they evolved.

Expert Dave Hone, arguably the top dog when it comes to Tyrannosaurs having written the “go-to volume” The Tyrannosaur Chronicles and consulted on the one-of-its-kind show T.rex Autopsy, will discuss whether the Tyrannosaurus rex had feathers.

Whilst the award-winning and youngest British Palaeontologist, Dean Lomax, who starred in ITV’s Dinosaur Britain, will reveal British dinosaur discoveries.

Other world-renowned speakers include Palaeoartist Bob Nicholls, who will explain how he built a life-sized reconstruction of the Chinese dinosaur Psittacosaurus, which has since been hailed across the world as the most accurate dinosaur reconstruction ever and American Palaeontologist Steve Brusatte, who has discovered more than a dozen fossils and consulted on the film Walking With Dinosaurs.

They will be joined on the bill by academics from the University of Nottingham who will talk through their own current research including the ecosystems in which dinosaurs lived, and reveal some of the hidden treasures within the University’s collections.

Director of knowledge exchange Asia, at University of Nottingham, Jason Feehily said: “One of the aims of the Dinosaurs of China exhibition is to educate the public about dinosaurs and their evolution and these talks will allow visitors to gain even further insights into the world these prehistoric creatures inhabited.

“The fact that so many respected experts were keen to come and share their knowledge while the exhibition is on is testament to both the quality of the Dinosaurs of China exhibition and the rarity of the some of the exhibits within it.

“All the Paleo Talks are free so for anyone with an interest in palaeontology or natural history collections they really are a great opportunity not to be missed.”

Palaeo Talks will take place on the following dates, at 1pm in Lakeside’s Djanogly Theatre. They will last for around 40 minutes, with 20 minutes for questions.
