5 things to do in the East Midlands this weekend

Outdoor theatre at Nottingham Castle
Nottingham Castle’s outdoor theatre season has begun and this weekend, shows will take to the stage in the grounds of the castle. Grab your blankets, camping chairs and picnic baskets and head down for a fun evening experiencing theatre in a totally different way. Saturday evening will host The Mikado, with gates opening at 6pm for a 7pm start. Find out more here.

Y Not Festival
Derbyshire is set to become home to Y Not Festival this weekend. This year’s line-up includes Stereophonics, Happy Mondays, The Vaccines, Jake Bugg, Clean Bandit, Cast and Maximo Park. There will be a wide range of stages to choose from, including some of the UKs best DJ’s and local acts. There will also be a whole host of food and drink to try and entertainment to enjoy. The Gruffalo’s Child
Head along to Lakeside Arts Centre in Nottingham on Sunday to enjoy The Gruffalo’s Child on stage. The musical adaptation of the popular book by Julia Donaldson follows the Gruffalo’s child, who ignores her father’s warnings about the big bad mouse and heads into the woods. The show will feature lots of songs and laughs for the whole family to enjoy. Find out more here.

Nottinghamshire Pride 2017
Celebrate Nottingham Pride this weekend, with an annual parade and events taking place at venues across the city. In Hockley, there will be a street party, with a whole range of acts taking to the stage and fun for the whole gang to enjoy. The Pride March begins at 11.30am on Castle Gate. Find out more here.

Explore Nottingham’s Caves
Nottingham Museum will be hosting an introduction to Nottingham’s caves event on Saturday. You will be able to find out how many caves there really are in the city, what they have been used for and where you can find them. The talk itself, from archaeologist Scott Lomax who has researched the city’s caves for nine years, will take place inside a cave that is not open to the public. Find out more here.
