GateWay Education, a company which provides student programmes to independent schools in the UK and USA, has sold a majority stake in its business to a global education investor.

Singapore-based ChangedEDU Holdings is the education investment arm of Verlinvest, a family office in Belgium.

It is the latest investment by Verlinvest, which brings GateWay into a group that includes an India edtech start-up, Byju’s, and a Singaporean education company, XSeed.

GateWay, which is based in Northampton and has offices in China and the USA, offers advice and support services to students, to independent schools with whom they are partnered, and host families providing accommodation to international students.

The deal, the terms of which are undisclosed, was supported by PwC.

Its financial team was led by partner Matthew Tombs and director Simon White and the tax team led by director Richard Farnsworth.

Tombs said: “We’re delighted to have advised GateWay Education in this disposal which has enabled it to find a strategic partner to support its continued growth.”
