Bank funding puts the dough into bakery’s growth plan

Leicestershire-based Geary’s Bakeries is to expand its factory and creating more jobs after securing a £4.5m funding package.

The family bakery, which can trace its history back to 1906, is extend its Barrow-upon-Soar site which will enable it to add to its range.

The funding package was created by NatWest, with help from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund through the University of Derby.

Geary’s employs around 150 people and last year generated sales of around £20m. It is now run by husband-and-wife Jason and Lyn Geary, the fourth generation of the Geary family to own the company.

Jason said: “Our bakery is passionate about producing high-quality long-fermentation baked goods at competitive prices, while maintaining our traditional craft methods and values.

“We are committed to the local community. We’re also grateful that the investment from NatWest will not only allow us to construct the new factory, but enable us to give back to Leicester in the form of job creation.”
