Furniture maker set to expand at EMDC

CWC Group has completed the development of a new 74,000 sq ft warehouse and office facility for Birlea Furniture at the East Midlands Distribution Centre (EMDC) in Castle Donington, Leicestershire.

Birlea Furniture has occupied 86,000 sq ft (7,432 sq m) at the scheme since 2013 and with the acquisition of Plot 6B has increased its total footprint at EMDC to 160,000 sq ft (14,864 sq m).

More than 3,000 people are employed at the scheme, where other major occupiers include Moran Logistics, Interlevin and Klober. It is also home to the main M&S e-commerce distribution unit, serving the UK and Ireland.

Paul Shanley, director at CWC Group, said: “We are delighted that Birlea Furniture has once again shown its commitment to EMDC, and pleased to continue supporting the company’s impressive growth.”

Jake Magill, managing director at Birlea Furniture, said: “These are exciting times for Birlea Furniture, with the business continuing to grow significantly since we acquired our first building at EMDC. We have a great relationship with CWC Group and EMDC provides us with an excellent location for us to service our customer base while providing a platform for us to grow further.”

Ranjit Gill, industrial director at Savills, added: “EMDC is one of the most established and sought after distribution centres in the Midlands, as the strong line up of major national and regional occupiers demonstrates. CWC Group has planning consent for a further 1 million sq ft of employment space at the park and we are already receiving robust demand from potential occupiers.”

Savills acted jointly with FHP. Birlea Furniture was unrepresented.
