Wilko to axe nearly 4,000 jobs

Nottinghamshire-headquartered value retailer Wilko is set to axe nearly 4,000 jobs across its stores, according to reports.

Retail Week says that Wilko will axe a level of supervision roles across its 398-store estate after reporting an 80% fall in profits last month.

The firm says the, 3,900 job cuts will mean a “simpler” structure designed at giving customers a “better experience”.

Wilko says it is adding 1,000 jobs across its stores as it consolidates some supervisory roles into a team supervisory role, while also adding an unknown number of customer service jobs.

Wilko’s retail director Anthony Houghton said: “The simpler newly defined store structure will give teams greater variety within their roles and result in more team hours on the shopfloor, delivering a better customer experience.”
