The Tour of Britain, which was sponsored by healthy living housing development Berry Hill Mansfield, has been hailed a success.

Some 120 of the world’s top cyclists passed through Nottinghamshire – starting in Mansfield and ending in Newark – when one of the road cycling event’s eight stages visited the county on September 6.

The Berry Hill Mansfield development, a mixed-use development scheme on the boundary of Nottingham and Mansfield, sponsored the prestigious event.

Richard Bowden, project representative for The Lindhurst Group, developers of Berry Hill Mansfield, said: “We are so proud to have sponsored such a fantastic and successful event. The unbelievable atmosphere brought the whole town together and the community cheered on the cyclists as they passed through Mansfield – it was great to see.”

The Berry Hill team also handed out goody bags inside the Tour of Britain’s event village, containing water bottles, t-shirts and z-cards providing more details about what the development will bring to Mansfield.

Bowden added: “It was great to meet the Mansfield community, who were all excited to watch the Tour of Britain pass through the town. As part of the Berry Hill development, we will be creating miles of footpaths and cycle ways to promote safe and healthy travel. The development will also have plenty of green spaces, a community park and children’s play areas to encourage a healthy lifestyle.”

Councillor Kay Cutts, leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “It’s been quite a day in Nottinghamshire. We have witnessed a major international sporting event, broadcast live to millions of viewers, with a thrilling finale in Newark.

“I want to take the opportunity to thank everyone for embracing today and turning out to line the route to cheer on the riders, as well as all the hours of hard work and flair that has gone into creating the miles of bunting, countless flags, dozens and dozens of yellow bikes and all the impressive displays of land art.”

“Without the support, goodwill and enthusiasm of local residents, businesses, schools and volunteers, we wouldn’t be able to bring this free-to-attend sporting event to our country.”

The first phase of the Berry Hill Mansfield development will see the delivery of approximately 500 new homes as part of an urban extension to the south of the town.

The Lindhurst Group is to develop some 480 acres of land, delivering up to 1,700 new homes, a brand new primary school, children’s nursery, health centre and care facilities; the scheme will also include serviced land for hi-tech research and development facilities, offices and industrial accommodation and leisure and retail uses.

The scheme, which received £8.5m in in funding from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) earlier this year, will provide much-needed homes for west Nottinghamshire as well as creating jobs and business opportunities through a new innovation park, varied employment land opportunities as well as a retail and leisure offering.

This long-term collaboration between Nottinghamshire County Council, Lindhurst Jersey and W Westerman will bring more than £100m of investment into the area and will provide much-needed homes as well as high-tech office space and commercial land opportunities.
