Chinese company to create 20 jobs in Mansfield
A Chinese company is to set up its UK base in Mansfield – the first investment following the signing of a trade, investment, cultural and policy tie-up between Nottinghamshire County Council and Zhejiang Province in eastern China.
Zhejiang Shanghong Shelf Co is finalising an agreement for a 40,364 sq ft facility at the Millennium Business Park, Mansfield – initially creating up to 20 local jobs.
Shanghong Shelf Company already employs 600 people in Zhejiang and is one of the leading shelving manufacturers in China. It specialises in custom designs for retail display, exhibitions and warehousing with their products already being widely used domestically, as well as in the UK, America, Japan, Australia and elsewhere.
Council leader, councillor Kay Cutts and chief executive, Anthony May are in China this week where they shook hands on the deal with Zhejiang Shanghong Shelf’s chairman, Gray Zhang.
The company was part of a delegation, made up of 60 businesses from Zhejiang, which travelled to Nottinghamshire in June for a trade and investment symposium, organised by Nottinghamshire County Council and the China Council for the Promotion of Investment and Trade (CCPIT).
The County Council worked with Marketing NG to identify appropriate sites in the County and then Ashfield and Mansfield Regeneration Service, which is helping to meet the company’s employment, recruitment and training needs.
Cutts said: “We are absolutely thrilled that our friendship with Zhejiang is already reaping rewards for the local economy, less than six months into our new and exciting partnership. This ties in with County Council’s efforts to support economic growth and new jobs for the county, through our new Strategic Plan and the regional vision for growth strategy, recently submitted to Government by the Midlands Engine.
“I know that the Zhejiang Shanghong Shelf company representatives were very impressed with what they saw of Nottinghamshire – our heritage, our skills base, our central location and our future plans for growth.
“We are expecting that this will be the first of many economic wins for the county through this partnership and is testament to the excellent services on offer to support trade and investment into Nottinghamshire.”
