Food manufacturer reveals plans to create 270 Notts jobs

Dessert manufacturer Bakkavor could be ser to creative nearly 300 jobs in Newark after revealing plans for a £20m extension at its factory in the town.

According to reports in the Nottingham Post, the expansion would create another 270 jobs in Newark.

Bakkavor lodged plans with Newark and Sherwood District Council to expand its plant at Jessop Way. The news comes just weeks after Bakkavor has put its Welcome Foods factory in Huthwaite up for rent following the firm’s decision to close the plant in March, with the loss of 300 jobs.

A Bakkavor spokeswoman said: “This is an exciting time for Bakkavor Desserts as the business continues to grow.

“Our proposed investment will further enhance our capabilities as a leading desserts manufacturer and we anticipate that we will have a number of new jobs available in the second half of next year if this proposal goes ahead.”

Around 1,800 people work at the plant, which produces desserts for supermarket own-label brands. The new jobs would be a mixture of factory and office jobs.
