Midlands Engine chair to speak at inaugural awards

Sir John Peace, Midlands Engine

Sir John Peace, the chair of Burberry and ex-chair of Standard Chartered is the star attraction at the inaugural Nachural Entrepreneurship Awards taking place on the 24th November 2017 at the Kingpower Stadium, Leicester.

The chair of the Midland Engine will talk about this experience of starting up the public listed Experian, his experience of running of GUS and his chairmanship of Burberry.

“We are really pleased to have secured Sir John as our keynote speaker and I am certain that he will plenty to say about the current business environment as well as his experience as a top level businessman,” said Ninder Johal, the chief executive of Nachural, the production company behind the inaugural awards dinner.

Johal’s comments came as preparations are in place to celebrate the best in business and the community in a glitzy black tie dinner event due to take place on November 24th at the Kingpower stadium.

He added: “With almost full employment, rising rate of inflation because of the low pound and a raising of interest rates next year, confidence amongst businesses is mixed.
As businesses, we need an environment that breeds certainty and a government that has long term aspirations and a vision to encourage wealth creation.

“The global, national and local environment continues to be uncertain. The EU referendum result continues to affect the business community as negotiations continue to stall, and whilst the global economy continues to grow and in particular the Eurozone, the world remains uncertain with tensions in the Middle East and Asia.

“With successful automotive and aerospace sectors experiencing continual growth and start up’s continuing to accelerate, there is a definite lift in confidence in the region. But there is much to be done with regards to skills and infrastructure and we must continue to press our businesses to widen their scope to overseas markets.

“The event aims to address the importance of the Midlands Engine and there is a strong desire to connect the East and West Midlands in many ways other than through Midlands Connect which addresses the transport issue.

“The awards seek to celebrate and highlight the ever increasing importance of the regions business community and its great contribution to the local, regional and national economy. The profile of the awards which have been already successful in the West Midlands is increasing year on year.

“We feel it is important that the East Midlands and the wider region needs to celebrate its achievements and in the current climate it is easy to forget the contributions of businesses in the area. From start up’s to established employers in the area, the East Midlands and the wider region has much to boast about.

“We would encourage businesses to enter before the deadline of the 16th October 2017 and to use the opportunity of showcasing the great work they do in supporting the area. There is considerable publicity surrounding the awards dinner which is expected to attract the who’s who of the region.”

Award categories include Business Start up, Entrepreneur of the year, Community Excellence, Regeneration, International Trade/Enterprise, Business Woman of the year, Hospitality Business of the year, and Business Person of the Year.

Sponsors for the event include Morningstar, Vision Print, Investec Bank, North Warwickshire and South Leicester College, Rational FX, Cobra Beer, East End foods, Hollywood Monster, Pathway Group and HRA loudspeakers.

The glitzy awards dinner is due to take place on the 24th November 2017 at the Kingpower Stadium, Leicester City Football Club – for further information contact: Nachural on 0121 526 3141 or ninder.johal@nachural.co.uk.
