A1 closed in Lincolnshire after ‘serious collision’
The road is closed in both directions

The A1 is closed in both directions this morning due to a serious collision incident which occurred shortly before 1am this morning with the response being led by Lincolnshire Police.

The northbound carriageway is closed from the B668 (Stretton) to the A151 junction at the Colsterworth roundabout. The southbound carriageway closure is longer with a closure between the junctions of the A607 (Grantham) through to the B668 (Stretton). Local traffic seeking to join the A1 northbound at the A151 Colsterworth roundabout are able to do so, however there is no access southbound.

Diversions are available for traffic approaching the area with northbound traffic to leave the A1 at Stamford and should follow the solid black circle symbol on local road signs. This will divert traffic via the A606 heading north west to Melton Mowbray with this route continuing through the town via the one-way system to remain on the A606. At the junction with the A606/A607/A6006, traffic should turn right on to the A607 and stay on this road heading north east to re-join the A1 near Grantham. The southbound diversion is the reverse of this route using the A607 to Melton Mowbray and the A606 back to Stamford and customers should follow the hollow black diamond diversion symbol.

Highways England says the road closure is now expected to remain in place into daylight hours and extend through this morning’s travel peak into mid/late morning. With diversion routes in operation for both directions, traffic congestion is expected to build around the Melton Mowbray area during the course of the morning and commuters are strongly advised to check travel conditions if intending to travel in this area.
