Nottingham city centre mixed-use scheme takes a step closer

An application to transform a troubled Nottingham city centre site into a mixed-use development has been recommended for planning permission by Nottingham City Council’s chief planner.

The Council’s Planning Committee will sit next Wednesday to rule on the application, which outlines a plan by developer Cosybox, which wants to demolish the dilapidated buildings 2-6 Alfreton Road in the Canning Circus area of Nottingham and build a scheme which would include 35 apartments as well as office an retail space on the ground floor.

The recently fire-struck site at Canning Circus could be redeveloped into a contemporary take on Victorian-style townhouses if plans are given the go-ahead by Nottingham City Council.

A planning statement by DL Design Studio of Nottingham reads: “As a mixed-use development the site will add vibrancy to the street by introducing a new flow of pedestrians, day and night, creating an improved street scene, especially during the evenings when light and movement within the building will create the sense of life, adding a new dynamic to the streets. Life within the buildings during all hours will also improve the security on the streets by adding ‘eyes on the street’.”
