Spotted Duck set to open for breakfast

Johnny Prince

The Spotted Duck, situated in the heart of Mountsorrel on the edge of Leicestershire’s iconic Charnwood Forest is the debut restaurant of 22 year old Johnny Prince, chef and owner.

From an early age Johnny had a fascination with food, and at 16 he began working with locally renowned chef, Paul Leary and his ambition to open his own restaurant was born.

In order to gain more experience and realise his goal, Johnny gained experience in some of the UK’s best restaurants including Raymond Blanc’s, 2 Michelin starred Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons, Michelin Starred Hambleton Hall and Hix of Soho as well as working with the UK’s largest operator of restaurants and pubs, Mitchells and Butlers.

In early 2016 Johnny returned to Leicester with the concept for the Spotted Duck and a menu filled with British classics with the twist of gourmet elegance, taste, and presentation.

The Spotted Duck appeals to all with its casual trend-setting vibe, Instagram worthy dishes and calm and relaxing atmosphere. The unpretentious décor of bare brick fire places, stone quarry tiles and reclaimed wooden tables is perfectly paired with hand crafted crockery and elegant glassware.

Seated in the opulent lounge area gives guests an opportunity to peruse the menu and enjoy a pre-dinner drink. Wednesday and Thursday offer a Modern British Tapas Menu whilst Friday and Saturday evenings give diners the chance to enjoy the rustic fine dining of the Al a Carte Menu. Sunday lunchtime is a real treat with a very modern take on the Sunday Roast; stunning local beef sided with the most amazing pulled oxtail stuffed yorkie and in true style, ‘Duck Fat’ roasties.

The British tapas style menu invites diners to sample Johnny’s take on Great British classics. Some of the highlights include The Spotted Duck burger with rich and smokey BBQ brisket and mozerella, mushroom risotto (not quite as you expect) and a classically stunning treacle tart with a refreshing grapefruit sorbet. Each option is full of flavour, showcasing quality local ingredients.

The Spotted Duck are ever interested in teaming up with local suppliers and producers. Thursday 12 October will see in celebration of National Chocolate Week a collaboration between The Spotted Duck and Cocoa Amore of Leicester to host a special tasting menu featuring chocolate in every course.
