New self-serve wine bar set for Nottingham

More details have been revealed about Nottingham’s first ever self-serve wine bar, which is set to open its doors later this month.

Another? Wine Bar is based in Trinity Square and will welcome customers from Friday 27 October.

The intimate venue seats 60 people across two floors, with a roof terrace and extensive outdoor garden space to be added in spring 2018.

On arrival, guests will be shown to a table and given their own personal tab card, which can be used to activate any of three tasting machines. Between them, they offer a choice of 32 differently priced reds, whites, rosés, sparkling wines, Prosecco and vintage Champagnes.

Using the machines, customers can pour themselves a 25ml sample or full 125ml and 175ml measures, keeping track of how much they have spent as they go. At the end of the evening, the tab card is handed to a member of staff, who then provides the bill.

Another? Wine Bar is being launched by Sam Benjamin, who has spent the past decade working on brand and product development in the food and drink industry. Having lived in Nottingham for six years, it was the perfect destination for Sam to launch his new venture.

He said: “The city has a thriving and well supported independent scene and Nottingham has always embraced new concepts,” said Sam.

“A lot of people are scared of wine. We’re told how we should taste it, as well as the flavours and aromas we should be experiencing. You tend to find people find something they like and stick to it. However, our entire premise is about choice, exploration and trying something new, and doing it in a place that’s relaxed, and informal. This is not your stereotypical stuffy wine bar.

“Each bottle has full tasting notes underneath it and our staff are on hand to offer expert advice if you need it. I’ve had lots of people ask me if it’s literally just wine we are serving and the simple answer is yes, well apart from a few soft drinks. I’m extremely passionate about wine and wanted to create a fiercely independent venue that specialises in one thing and does it really well.”

Another? Wine Bar will be open Wednesday – Sunday, with Monday and Tuesday reserved for corporate events and private parties. It will also be a cashless venue, accepting only smartphone and card payments.

Sam already has plans for the future of the Another? Wine Bar brand:

“We’ll soon be launching Wine Wednesdays, which will see customers able to combine the wine with a selection of locally sourced cheeses, breads and olives. We see it as the perfect combination to celebrate the mid-point of the working week!

“I also want to ensure that our customers are involved in the way our bar evolves and when suppliers come and pitch new wines to us, I want to invite people along to try them with us. It’s important to us that it’s not just our own personal choices that make it on to the menu.

“Obviously, our immediate priority is to open the doors to Trinity Square and ensure all of our customers have an amazing experience. Beyond that, I totally believe we have a scalable concept and it’s safe to say that I already have my eye on a few more locations.”
