Canadian business swoops for Leicester tech firm

MCR Systems, the Leicester provider of software and electronic point of sale systems, has been bought by Jonas Software, a subsidiary of Toronto listed Constellation Software.

Established in 1978, MCR Systems has over thirty-five years’ experience in providing enterprise management solutions technology. Jonas operates over 70 independently managed software companies around the world.

Matthew Gatter, MCR Systems managing director, said: “We are extremely pleased to be joining the Jonas Group and add to the strength of their existing software offering. The acquisition means MCR Systems is ideally placed to continue leading the way in electronic point of sale technology within our chosen markets.”

Advisers on the transaction were also Leicester based. Mark Tuckwell and Shafwaan Bheda of Magma Chartered Accountants were lead advisors to the shareholders of MCR Systems, with Keith Gilbert and Andrew Spiers at Freeths providing legal advice.

Tuckwell of Magma said: “Magma have worked with MCR Systems for a number of years and have seen the business go from strength to strength. This transaction was particularly satisfying for us, having supported MCR for a number of years.”

Gilbert, partner at Freeths, added: “This is a really positive acquisition, with the parties being a great fit to continue to develop the MCR business. It was a pleasure to work with the MCR team and also with Magma, who we have assisted with transactions previously.”
