From East Midlands to winter sun in Seville

East Midlands Airport has celebrated Ryanair’s inaugural flight to Seville, the capital of southern Spain’s Andalusia region.

Launching its twice-weekly service last week, Ryanair is the only carrier serving the 1,746km route and now offers 23 destinations from the airport.

As a result of its latest Spanish link – the largest country market served from the region – East Midlands Airport will see a 4.5% year-on-year increase in scheduled seats this winter. With a 40% share of all weekly seats from East Midlands to Spain, Ryanair is the leading airline of four serving the country during W17/18.

Commencing the 16th Spanish destination available from East Midlands this year the airport now offers nine routes to Spain throughout the winter.

Howard Ebison, commercial director, East Midlands Airport and Bournemouth Airport says: “Our passengers can say ‘Olé’ to another new route from East Midlands Airport this weekend as we see the start of our winter sun services in what we expect to be a busy season. With more destinations available, those in our region are now able to take advantage of flights from their local airport on our growing route network, and all the added convenience this brings.”

Robin Kiely, head of communications, Ryanair, said: “We are pleased to launch our new route from East Midlands to Seville, which will allow East Midlands customers and visitors choose from 23 routes this winter, including eight routes to Spain.”
