The Key Health Club on Bunny Lane in Keyworth, Nottinghamshire, which was due to close, is under new ownership and has had a major refurbishment.

Liz and Phil Gabriel, who own a Puddle Ducks franchise which offers high end swimming lessons to children, have acquired the 9,700 sq ft privately-owned health and fitness club, saving six existing jobs and providing a further three jobs for the local community.

Nottingham-based solicitors Fraser Brown assisted the couple in the acquisition of The Key Health Club.

The £300,000 refurbishment has introduced new changing rooms, an air-conditioned gym with new gym equipment and a spin and exercise studio, a warm swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and beauty treatment rooms.

Liz Gabriel, director of The Key Health Club, said: “We’re very excited to unveil the newly renovated Key Health Club. This was our first venture into buying our own business and commercial building and we’re so pleased that we’ve been able to bring this premises back to life and secure jobs for the local community.

“We have hired the pool at the venue since 2010 as part of our Puddle Ducks franchise and when the opportunity to purchase it came up it seemed like a natural extension to our existing business, as the club would have closed had we not purchased it.

“We wouldn’t have been able to save the club without the support of Fraser Brown Solicitors, the firm not only offered legal advice to help us complete the purchase, but also provided guidance and support throughout the process. They were very professional and personable and it was a pleasure to work with them.”

The Key Health Club has also opened a new café area open to members and the public, as well as a newly refurbished 80-seater meeting room available for hire.

Marcus-Adam Tuck, solicitor in the corporate law team at Fraser Brown Solicitors, and Julie Pope, consultant solicitor in the commercial property team, supported Liz and Phil with the acquisition and purchase of the freehold property.

Pope said: “This venue is an exciting addition to an already successful business. Marcus and I are very pleased with the outcome of the project and look forward to seeing the health club go from strength to strength.

“The venue looks incredible inside and has already been very well received by the public. Liz and Phil have been a pleasure to work with and I’d like to wish them the best of luck in this new venture.”
