Nottingham firm signs retro sweets deal

RetroScents, the Nottingham manufacturer of in-car air fresheners, has signed a licensing deal with an international supplier and the leading UK independent manufacturer of sugar confectionery and branded popcorn.

The deal with Tangerine is the latest in a long line of merchandising successes for the Nottingham-based firm, whose scented products are designed to evoke a sense of childhood nostalgia.

Tangerine owns a plethora of iconic, retro and traditional brands including DipDab, Sherbet Fountain, Fruit Salad, Blackjack, Henry Goode and Princess Mallows.

RetroScents has tasted success with a series of licensing deals with Disney, Columbia Pictures and Universal Studios to produce air-fresheners based on characters from the hugely anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie, the Angry Birds film, Minions, and Finding Nemo sequel Finding Dory. It has also worked with Hong Kong brand Emoji.

The deal with Tangerine is further evidence of RetroScents’ ability to tap into the fast-expanding retro market and is set to evoke some long-lost memories, according to RetroScents sales director Gary Digva.

He said: “Tangerine and Retroscents is a perfect match that will help retailers offer a taste of childhood to an adult market. Tangerine’s brands will evoke a dose of nostalgia to our range of air-freshener products, while offering consumers something truly unique for their car-care needs.

Digva says that recent deals with candy Crush and Butterkist saw sales soar by 40% and belives the partnership with Tangerine will prove equally as popular.

He added: “Tangerine owns some truly iconic brands and we look forward to bringing that wonderful aroma to cars across the UK and helping the company expand their business even further.”

RetroScents air-fresheners are stocked by Asda, Euro Garages, Morrisons, MRH, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Wilko.
