Sale of £1m college building part of property review

1 Broadway

The decision to put a Nottingham College building in The Lace Market up for sale came about as part of an ongoing review of the new organisation’s estate.

As we revealed, FHP Property Consultants has been appointed to market the 14,000 sq ft 1 Broadway building in Nottingham’s Lace Market. Office or residential uses have been mooted, and a £1m price tag has been placed on the historic building.

Speaking exclusively to TheBusinessDesk.com, Matthew Varley, director of estates and capital projects, Nottingham College, said: “Following the creation of Nottingham College as a result of the merger of New College Nottingham and Central College earlier this year, we are reviewing our estate to ensure that we have the right number and type of facilities we need to give our students the best experience possible.

“As part of that review we have the opportunity to sell this desirable building, located in a sought after location within Nottingham’s Lace Market area.”

Nottingham College’s new £58m landmark City Hub campus will form part of the £250m Southern Gateway regeneration scheme, spearheaded by Nottingham City Council involving the redevelopment of the intu Broadmarsh Centre, the rebuild of the Broadmarsh bus station and car park, as well as the remodelling of road and pedestrian routes in the area.

Nottingham College’s new City Hub

The new campus will provide college and community facilities, together with a new business hub. This will encourage new business start-ups, better collaboration between the college and employers and will provide the wider community with improved training and skills resources. In addition, the campus will house a new performing arts centre, student retail space, café and training restaurant and bar.
