Logged-off: Aynsley Buggy, Distinct Recruitment

How does the busy recruiter unwind after a long week? We found out…

How do you relax at the weekend?
Over the last 4-5 years relaxing on the weekend has taken on a different meaning! Long lazy mornings, brunch and chilled out pub walks with the dog are now a thing of the past since having my 5-year-old Jack and 4-year-old Lilly-May. I have worked hard over the last couple of years to really make sure I chill out at the weekends. Whether its running the kids and the dog wild around Wollaton Park, swimming or finding myself at the bottom of a soft play bundle, I always have loads of plans to keep us all busy. Sundays are always good family days with Jack playing rugby in the morning as I nurse a strong coffee, with an afternoon typically filled with bike rides or us all parked up on the sofa in front of Pixar’s latest offering!

How many hours do you work at the weekend on average?
I try and avoid working at the weekends if I can, even though technology doesn’t always make that easy as we all know. I took the decision not to have access to my emails on my phone as I have found watching the emails rack up can be a big distraction from the key family time we all need. I will take my Macbook home at the weekends and if I feel I the need to logon and check a few bits or get back on some urgent messages then I will, especially when my job is so centred around people who are busy with the day job during the week. I’m very lucky to work for a company that instils complete trust in you, so I do what I need when I need to do it. The expectation is that weekends are family time..we graft enough during the week!

What’s your favourite:
– Holiday destination? Just one!? So many and my list of “places to return to” grows every year! I have been very lucky to have travelled to some great places over the years, be it honeymoon in the Maldives, travelling around Thailand with Charlotte my wife before we had kids, through to holidays in Ibiza, Greece, Portugal, Majorca. However, the winner for me is the humble Cornish coast! My wife and I are very lucky to have been given a timeshare by my mother and father in law and we have been visiting the same place for the last 12 years and we don’t get bored of the clear waters, hot chocolates and Cornish ice cream! Its great to be able to now see my kids enjoying the area.

– Album? I’m not a massive music bod so as I result I listen to what I like at the time, thank god for Spotify on that! My playlists are full of everything from Chase and Status through to The 1975 and Duran Duran!

– Food? Having recently given up meat, bacon rolls and steak and chips are a thing of the past. I have evolved into being a big dessert man these days, so it would have to be homemade peanut butter and chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. I could go to three portions!

– TV programme? We chop and change, I’ll keep this quiet but we are suckers for a drama!

How do you usually spend Sunday evenings?
Sundays evenings start early for us with Sunday lunch and following that, a massive portion of dessert! The kids are in bed early and after a busy weekend we are typically flaked out on the sofa in front of some Sunday evening TV with a cheeky glass of red before the busy week descends once again.
