More investment to come at Highcross, says Tallack

Jo Tallack

The general manager of the Highcross shopping centre has promised more deevlopment at the mall in Leicester over the next five years.

Speaking at TheBusinessDesk.com’s first Women in Business Lunch at Leicester Tigers last Friday, Tallack said that she had just signed off a five-year business plan that will add to the works already underway to upgrade and extend stores around the House of Fraser unit.

Tallack said: “In retail, you have to find the right time for investment, and when we started the current works, we knew it was right. These works will be finished by next October, and visitors to the Highcross won’t be disappointed.”

An audience of around 45 business leaders heard that the current redevelopment of the Highcross would, among other moves, see international fashion brand, Zara, anchor the refurbished St Peter’s Square entrance, doubling the size of its existing unit to create a 35,520 sq ft flagship store. The new, enlarged store will enable the global fashion brand to offer its full range of womenswear, menswear, shoes and accessories.

JD Sports will also significantly increase its store footprint at Highcross, expanding into a 20,451 sq ft unit.

Tallack said the units left vacant by the moves would be “back-filled”, and that this process was already underway.

Tallack went on to say: “We’ve recently agreed a new business plan, and all I can say is: there’ll never be a dull moment at the Highcross over the next five years. There’s more investment on the way.”

Earlier, Jacqui Ledger communications manager for the LLEP Business Gateway told the audience about the work her oganisation was doing, including support for the Waterside regeneration in Leicester and the 2,000 jobs it had helped create.
