Newark modular buildings firm forms JV with design and consultancy giant
The firms will work together to focus on the residential market

Newark-based offsite construction firm Caledonian and global design and consultancy giant Arcadis have signed a collaborative partnership agreement.

Focusing specifically on the residential sector, Arcadis will work with Caledonian to develop new modular designs and to build additional capacity in the commercial and technical delivery of new housing.

Arcadis has also made a new senior level appointment to oversee the development of its modular strategy across the UK. Jim Totton will be taking on the role of technical director for modular buildings design and delivery, a role that he previously held at Aecom.

Marcus Fagent, sector managing director for public buildings at Arcadis, said: “In the last three years we have played a leading role in developing pre-fabrication technologies, to the extent that it is now the default technical solution for all education buildings. We are now seeing this success starting to be replicated in the residential sector. Jim has unparalleled technical knowledge of pre-fabrication and will work with our design and commercial teams to strengthen our ability to deliver manufactured options and results for our clients.”

Paul Lang, chief executive officer of Caledonian, said: “We have a strong history of collaboration with Arcadis. This partnership enables us to leverage design and delivery resources from a large multi-disciplined consultancy to jointly develop precision manufactured solutions for the residential sector through the application of Design for Manufacture and Assembly techniques as a full turnkey solution.”
