Nottingham logistics firm to create 14 jobs

NOTTINGHAM-based Baxter Freight has launched a recruitment drive for 14 new sales account managers – the firm is known for its strong ethos of hiring people with only modest experience and giving them a platform to launch a successful career.

The multi-modal logistics company, which currently employs almost 60 people, is recruiting in support of its plan to grow its turnover to £18m in 2018.

Baxter Freight, based in Lenton, hopes to keep talent in the city by developing people and giving them the opportunity to rise through the ranks – an ethos the business has followed since it was set up in 2014.

Ian Baxter, chairman and founder of Baxter Freight, which currently has an annual turnover of £13m, said: “It has always been our aim to develop talented people with the potential to progress.

“All we are looking for in people is intelligence, commitment, character and some basic experience of sales or the freight industry. We recruit on that basis alone and I’m proud to say many of the individuals we employed when the business started are still with us today. It has been great to see them develop into valuable business people.

“In short, Baxter Freight is a fun, at times challenging, but great place to work. If you have a drive and a passion to develop then we’re willing to invest in you. I like to think we are a flexible employer that understands the ups and downs people face in everyday life. We have put effort into developing relationships with regular events outside of work and provide very attractive rewards and career development for account managers who do well.”

Phil Zdanowski and Dan Myers were the very first sales account managers employed by Baxter Freight. The duo progressed to senior account managers in July 2016 before being promoted to sales team leader and business development manager respectively this year.

Dan, 28, of Carlton, said: “I joined Baxter Freight as I was keen to work in a start-up environment – my skill set is entrepreneurial so being a cog in a large organisation didn’t interest me. The company gives a platform for ambitious people to be creative and make a difference, whereby hard workers can influence a fast-paced industry and develop their skill set rapidly.”

Phil, 31, of Carlton, said: “When I joined, the company was brand new and I saw this as a challenge. I have learnt a lot about the freight industry, sales, and also account management including customer service and pushing myself to be the best I can be. Baxter Freight is a fantastic place to work – especially if you’re looking for a career with not only great earning potential, but also scope to evolve.”

Laura Bull started as an account manager in October 2014, progressed to senior account manager in February 2017 and was promoted to sales team leader recently.

Laura said: “I joined Baxter Freight because it was an exciting opportunity for a new challenge in an unfamiliar industry. I felt the training that was offered would allow me to develop my skill sets further. I have gained and improved on my negotiation skills, time management, customer service and communitarian skills.

“Baxter Freight has a friendly culture and drive for success. It is continually growing and encourages promotion from within as well as invests in its employees. The company also has an open mind when employing new account managers, creating a friendly environment with a variety of personalities.”
