Serious collision closes A1 causing long delays
The road will remain closed until the early hours of the tomorrow morning, says Highways England

The A1 in Lincolnshire is currently closed northbound between the A52 (Grantham) and the A46 (Newark-on-Trent) due to a serious collision involving an overturned lorry which has lost it’s load.

The vehicle has partially crossed over onto the southbound carriageway resulting in the closure of lane 2 (of 2 lanes). As a result of this incident there are long delays of over 30 minutes approaching the closure northbound and delays of over 1 hour for road users travelling southbound. It is anticipated that due to the nature of this incident, recovery and clean-up work will be extensive taking a number of hours to complete. It is anticipated that the northbound carriageway will remain closed until at least the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Northbound diversion route:

Northbound traffic should exit the A1 at the A52 Barrowby junction and follow this road to the A52 / A46 Saxondale junction. From here continue on the A46 until you reach the A46 / A1 Brownhills roundabout. Take the first exit onto the A1 northbound to re-join the A1.

For B1174 traffic at the Gonerby Moor junction wishing to access the A1 northbound, take the southbound entry slip onto the A1 and continue southbound until the A1 Barrowby Junction. Exit the A1 onto the A52 and then follow the above route.

Road users are advised to plan ahead, leaving plenty of extra travelling time. Road users may wish to consider delaying their journey or use alternative routes where possible.
