Council throws out plans for new Nottingham gym

Castle Park, Nottingham

A plan to create some 30 jobs at a new gym on an industrial estate in Nottingham has been refused by Nottingham City Council.

Nottingham City Council says plans by PureGym to change an empty warehouse on Castle Park, Queens Drive in the city into its latest fitness facility, “fails to provides an attractive, safe and “inclusive environment for its potential users” and that the gym’s large number of car parking spaces would create traffic problems for other users of the business park.

Proposals put forward would have seen Unit 8 on the industrial estate divided and the gym move into a 19,500 sq ft space.

PureGym currently operates from over 170 locations across the country. Most of its low-cost gyms are open 24 hours a day.

The firm’s website reads: “At PureGym we believe everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy a fit and healthy lifestyle. So we have made it simple, affordable & convenient for everyone to achieve their personal health goals. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, young or old, we’re here for everybody.”
