Local business leaders named in New Year’s Honours list

Prominent East Midlands business figures have been recognised in the New Year’s Honours list.

Meanwhile, Susan Hallam, managing director of Hallam Internet in Nottingham, becomes an MBE for services to entrepreneurship and innovation.

Hallam told TheBusinessDesk.com: “I have to confess when the typical brown envelope appeared in the post I assumed it was a tax demand. But what a joy it turned out to be that I can now share with my colleagues and family and friends the unexpected news of an MBE!

“I’m hoping my Mom, who is in her 80s, will be able to fly in from her home in Philadelphia to attend my investiture, and I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to those kind souls who nominated me, and to ackwledge the great work of my colleagues at Hallam who played such a huge part in this nomination.”

Tony Walker, deputy managing director at Toyota’s Burnaston plant in Derbyshire and the president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, receives an CBE for services to the motor industry.

Ronald Knight, the founder of Stamford-based Knight Farm Machinery is also named. He receives an MBE for services to agricultural engineer entrepreneurship and charitable fundraising.

And Leanne Bonner-Cooke, the owner and managing director of Leicestershire-based Evolve-IT Consulting has been made an MBE for services to women in business.

In education, professor Christopher Rudd, provost and chief executive officer at the University of Nottingham’s Ningbo campus has been named OBE for servcies to higher education and UK/China co-operation.
