Kelham Hall sold as major refurbishment works begin

Kelham Hall has been sold to one of the East Midlands’ most well-known hoteliers – three years after he first bid for control of the venue.

Jonathan Pass, managing director of Kelham Hall Limited, said he was “delighted” to have secured the purchase of the hall and grounds.

Work has already commenced on the Thompson Wing creating a business centre with fully-serviced offices, reception, gymnasium and meeting rooms. “Significant” investment has made in high-speed
Wi-Fi, telephony, a server room and CCTV.

A masterplan for the Hall, designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, has been produced by local
architect, Guy Taylor Associates.

The project was recently approved and development will start shortly with creation of new entrance drive and landscaping. Three distinct styles of hotel accommodation have been designed for the Gilbert Scott, Salvin and Thompson wings and work will commence next year.

Pass’s plans include the development a boutique hotel within the Gilbert Scott Wing and further development the state rooms for conferences, private dinning, meetings and events.

The Salvin courtyard is being opened up and glazed over and will provide additional space for restaurant dining and private events.

Reinstatement of the formal gardens and further landscaping together with a calendar of family events run by The Kelham Experience Co, located in the new reception will encourage visitors to enjoy the 42 acres of grounds and the riverside walk.

The car parks are being upgraded and a Pass says there are plans for a small daily charge to be introduced for parking next year.

The tourist and visitor offer is being further enhanced with guided tours and the expansion of the Society of the Sacred Mission & Dukes Wood Museum.

In March 2013 Pass took over the lease for the ground floor and catering, increasing both the Asian and traditional wedding bookings as well as attracting conference bookings and day visitors.

He successfully bid for the purchase of Kelham Hall in 2014.

Pass has an extensive property and hotel portfolio including Charlotte House Hotel, and Bail House Hotel Lincoln and Nent Hall Hotel Cumbria.
