St Peters Street works restart after Christmas break
The second phase of public realm improvement works on St Peters Street in Derby is to restart on Monday 8th January.
During this phase of works, paving is being replaced on the western side of the street (the side on which St Peters Church is located) as well as along the middle of the street.
New furniture zones will also be installed. The furniture zones will comprised of seating, bicycle parking areas, litter bins, improved street lighting and planters.
The result of a public consultation to permit legalised cycling in the city centre between 5pm and 10am is expected to be known early in the New Year. Should permission be granted, appropriate cycling signs will be installed during this phase of work.
The St Peters Street work is part of a bigger £1.9m public realm refurbishment. Other phases will be undertaken in Albion Street, Exchange Street and Osnabrück Square in 2018 and 2019.
D2N2 Local Enterprise Partnership – the private sector-led partnership which promotes economic growth across Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire – is providing a grant of £1.65m from its Local Growth Fund allocation. The Council is providing £250,000 from its capital budget – all of which has been applied to the St Peters Street works.
