Student lift-sharing app launched in Nottingham

An app which helps student save money by allowing users to share the cost of travel has been launched in Nottingham.

UniLift has been created by 24-year-old Roshan Sood and was born from the idea of not only ‘carpooling’ or ‘ridesharing’ with peers but also meeting new people, sharing experiences and creating lasting memories of your student days. The app allows students to both offer and find rides at a mutually agreeable price without the awkward conversations about exchanging cash.

Sood said: “I was inspired during my year abroad when I was saving money on travel whilst meeting amazing, like-minded people. It struck me that reliable ridesharing services weren’t as easily available in the U.K.as they are in Europe.

“As every traveller knows, a journey can provide opportunities to meet new people and share unique experiences.

“Students travel regularly but public transport fares are prohibitively expensive – especially when you’re on a tight budget. Student travel should be affordable and sociable and it is our mission to make it so. It’s not just ‘carpooling’ or ‘ridesharing’ but also about creating opportunities to connect whilst saving money-whether it be a long journey or a brief trip.”

Sood’s app includes features such as driving license verification, real-time tracking and feedback systems. Profile verification via university .ac.uk email addresses ensures only students can sign up to the service. Users are also provided with a ‘student-service’ WhatsApp number to help answer questions speedily and efficiently.

Sood said UniLift with be rolled out to the rest of the UK throughout 2018.
