Decision on 1m sq ft of Rushcliffe employment land nears

Fairham Pastures

A decision on whether a huge mixed-used scheme near Clifton, Nottingham, which could create over 2,500 jobs will be decided on next week.

Rushcliffe Borough Council’s Planning Committee will make the long-awaited decision about the application for new homes and employment units at Fairham Pastures on Thursday 25 January.

The site has been dentified in Rushcliffe’s Local Plan and part of the requirement to deliver 13,500 new homes in the Borough over the next ten years.

The outline application, submitted in July 2014, includes up to 3,000 new homes; 1.07 million sq ft of employment land generating in excess of 2,500 new jobs; new shops, community buildings and a new primary school. As well as sports pitches, a destination park, childrens’ play areas, community park and woodland, the application includes space for four gypsy and traveller pitches.

The outline application asks councillors to decide upon the principles of development and sets the parameters within which more detailed planning applications can be made in the future.

The employment land will be a mix of light industrial or office space, general industry and storage and distribution uses. Rushcliffe Borough Council says the focus will be on attracting new businesses to the area.

A statement from the Council reads: “It is hoped, that if approved, this application will go a long way to demonstrating a viable five year land supply. At present, the Borough Council cannot do this and as a result a number of developments in other areas have been approved at appeal on unallocated sites.”
