Bank buys 300,000 sq ft East Mids Barclaycard headquarters

Barclays has bought the 300,000 sq ft Northampton headquarters of Barclaycard from the landlord, Bayernfonds Immobilienverwaltung.

The bank says purchase of Pavilion Drive cements its longstanding commitment to Northampton and continued investment in the area. The town has been a key location for Barclays in the UK for more than 50 years and was the birthplace of Barclaycard following the launch of the brand in the UK in 1966.

Pavilion Drive, which currently houses 3,250 employees, has remained the UK headquarters for Barclaycard for more than 20 years since the building was opened in 1997.

Sarah O’Donovan, Northampton head of site for Barclaycard, told TheBusinessDesk.com: “The purchase of Pavilion Drive cements our long-term commitment to Northampton which spans more than 50 years. We are delighted to have completed this transaction, which will enable us to continue to invest in and improve the site to benefit colleagues, as well as our millions of customers. Barclaycard is proud of its association with Northampton, and we look forward to many more years of close involvement with the town.”
