Weekender: Logged-off – Ian Osborn, Banner Jones
We talk to the busy solicitor and ask how – and whether – he can relax at the weekend.
How do you relax at the weekend?
I am lucky enough to live in the heart of the Peak District, surrounded by a diverse range of landscapes. I enjoy many of the wonderful walks throughout the Peak National Park and I have recently taken up amateur photography, enabling me to combine a new found hobby with the various relaxing hikes.
How many hours do you work at the weekend on average?
My job as a solicitor can be very demanding, both in respect of time and capacity and as a result, my colleagues and I operate a keen policy of effective time management. With that in mind, and even with the best of intention, this can result in long weekday hours. As a result, I endeavour to keep my weekends free for “downtime”. That being said, I have been known to work an occasional Saturday, but I try to keep these occasions to a minimum.
What’s your favourite…
– Holiday destination? Mexico – although I have never been to the Maldives and would love to go.
– Book? The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch
– Album? I have an eclectic taste in music so it would be impossible to choose!
– Food? Anything Italian – I enjoy cooking and will often try my hand at making various Italian dishes and I enjoy the unique culture and history associated with Italian food and cooking.
– TV programme? Most recently, Vikings. I have a keen interest in history.
– Website or app? Amazon – Amazon Prime can be a lifesaver for urgent purchases, particularly when you are busy during the week.
How do you usually spend Sunday evenings?
More often than not, we will try and have a big roast dinner at home on a Sunday. As a result, I like to relax afterwards with a good book in front of the fire before the week ahead.
