Long delays on M1 after lorry fire

There are currently delays of over an hour on the M1 northbound between J20 (Lutterworth) and J21 (near Leicester) due to an HGV fire.

Highways England reports that the vehicle is carrying large rolls of waste paper which need to be removed from the trailer before it can be recovered. Lanes 1 and 2 (of 3) are closed at this time to allow recovery works to take place safely.

Motorists are advised allow extra time for your journey should you be travelling in the area.

Drivers may wish to consider exiting the M1 at J19, to then use the M6 and M69 to head north, while traffic travelling from further south may wish to use the M40 westbound and A46 or use the M11 northbound.
