Nottingham City Council planning committee is set to recommend that the new Broadmarsh Bus Station and Car Park gets the go-ahead at a meeting next week.

In a report by the chief planner at the Council seen by TheBusinessDesk.com, the scheme will get the green light despite some comments submitted from the public complaining that the new car park will be “an eyesore” and concerns over “replacing one dreadful cark park with another”.

Despite this, the development looks set to get planning approval when the committee meets next Wednesday (21 February).

Designed by Leonard Design, the new car park will have spaces for 1,179 car and include charging points on each floor for electric cars, with infrastructure in place to increase these as usage of electric cars increases. Solar panels will be installed on the roof of the building so it will generate and use its own energy. A mix of natural and mechanical ventilation will ensure a circulation of clean air in the building for its customers.

New retail units, with double height windows, will face on to Collin Street and Carrington Street, which will be pedestrianised under the Broadmarsh plans.

Councillor Jon Collins, leader of the City Council, said: “We want an appealing, modern and bright new building on the reinvigorated Broadmarsh landscape.

“The redeveloped building will include a new bus station, prominent high quality shops that will boost the area and complement the intu Broadmarsh redevelopment. Additional car parking spaces will give the city more of what it needs and mean more people will be able to visit the new Broadmarsh area.”
