£55m factory investment to be completed by September

The £55m transformation of the former British Sugar site in Bardney into a Ryvita bakery is expected to be completed within months.

Associated British Foods (ABF) expects to create 100 jobs through the investment and said it is making “good progress” with construction. It now expects the site to be commissioned in September.

The Bardney cracker factory will act as a sister site to the existing Ryvita factory in Poole, Dorset.

British Sugar had been based at the Lincolnshire site for 70 years before production ended in 2001. Since then, the site was used by ABF group company The Silver Spoon Company.

ABF is a huge food and retail group which includes Primark, Twinings and Kingsmill. It has a market value in excess of £20bn.
