People: Accountancy firm boosts team; Specialist contentious probate solicitor joins law firm; and more

Nottingham chartered accountants Clayton & Brewill has strengthened its team with two appointments to support its continued growth in 2018.

The firm has recruited charity specialist Lee Marshall as accounts manager while Chris Reed returns to the firm, also as an accounts manager, after 20 years.

Marshall joins Clayton & Brewill from small accountancy practice Cound & Co, where he has worked for the past 12 years; prior to that he has worked at HKS Greenhalgh and Hacker Young.

Reed returns to Clayton & Brewill after leaving 20 years ago. He previously worked at Clayton & Brewill from 1990 to 1997.

During his absence from Clayton & Brewill, he has worked at HKS Greenhalgh, Mazars and Pinpoint Business Services (Nottingham). He has advised a large number of small owner-managed and family run businesses.

Neil South, partner at Clayton & Brewill, said: “We’re delighted to welcome Lee to the Clayton & Brewill team, as well as also welcoming back Chris.

“Lee has a great level of experience and his charity expertise will enhance that of the team. I have no doubt that Lee will provide the fantastic level of client service that Clayton & Brewill are known for.

“I’m also delighted that Chris has returned to the Clayton & Brewill team. It’s always an honour when an old colleague is keen to return.

“Chris is dedicated, friendly and approachable and fits in perfectly. I’m looking forward to working with him again.”

Clayton & Brewill provides audit, tax and advisory services to individuals, owner managed businesses and SMEs across the Midlands, from its network of offices across the region in Nottingham, Long Eaton and Melton Mowbray.

Contentious probate expert Lewis Hastie has joined the Nottingham office of Nelsons Solicitors as an associate.

Hastie, who qualified as a solicitor in 2009, has joined the expanding dispute resolution team, based in Stanford Street, following three years at Leicester-based law firm Shakespeare Martineau and two years at Rothera Sharp in Nottingham.

He deals with disputes over the validity of wills and Inheritance Act claims, as well as civil litigation including claims for damages for wrongful detention and disputes with insurers.

He said: “Contentious probate is a fascinating area of law and is growing significantly at present. It is very gratifying to help clients reach agreement with their opponents and to come out of a dispute with a very satisfactory result.

“The job is challenging yet interesting and varied. I particularly enjoy meeting clients and professional contacts. I’m looking forward to building on that in the short term and over time, helping to grow the contentious probate team in Nottingham as well as our profile for this exciting area of work.”

Kevin Modiri, partner and solicitor in the dispute resolution team, said: “We are delighted to welcome Lewis to Nelsons, who has added a breadth of expertise to the department. I am looking forward to seeing him flourish in his new role – I know he will be a real asset to our Nottingham office.”
